Hello, severe trichotillomania has brought me here too. There are so many things about your NLP video that resonates with me. Please tell me, is there any NLP therapy practitioners in the eastern US?? What do you think about DBT therapy? It’s mostly for those with tourette’s but I’ve found that somewhat helpful for me. I’m very interested in knowing more about if there’s a NLP therapist near me to help me. Thank you so very very much for your video and response. Very grateful! Cheers
Dear Mr. Anthony,
I really enjoyed watching the webinar. However, I’m suffering form Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder). You mentioned a question which was what do you think the minute before you start the bad habit?you start a bad habit in my case there is no picture or any internal stimuli the only trigger are external and it happens when I’m in deep thinking, reading or studying I start pulling my hair and it give me pleasure at the moment, although I feel so guilty afterwards. what can I do how can I cure this? my hair never my asset I always complained since I was teenagers how fine and unattractive it looks
Hi Mervat
You say that your triggers are external. What are they? You also say that it happens when you are deep thinking – this does suggest to me that there are internal triggers also. How do you know that it is time to pull your hair? That is your trigger.
Hi Serif
Thanks for your questions. For anyone who has difficulty picturing things in their mind’s eye they can do something like looking at an apple, or anything that is familiar to them and then closing their eyes and recalling what they looked at. They could do it by looking in the mirror at themselves and then closing their eyes and imagining seeing themselves as they did do looking in the mirror. With practice they can add in more and more detail.
Yes, I’ve seen those pictures as well. The trouble with them is that they do not mean anything to people because they are not associated with the pictures. It isn’t real for them. If they imagine seeing a picture in their minds eye of their own body ravaged by cancer or see their loved ones crying after they are dead, and they really add in some sounds, smells, it will have a deeper effect. The key is to ask them what they would need to see in order to get it to a minus ten. It is an individual thing.
Anthony
I have seen horrible posters of tarred lungs as part of anti-smoking campaigns put around in offices, similarly awareness raising media spots on TV and they don’t seem to put off most people. Is creating the image internally more powerful than these repulsive external images?
How do you suggest someone who has difficulty picturing things in their mind’s eye develop this skill?
