Today is January 18th – often referred to as Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. But why is this? It’s thought that people’s moods are negatively affected by the cold and wet weather, the state of their finances after Christmas and by the thought of just how long it is to go until summer.

So what can you do to combat the blues today? There’s a lot you can try to help get you in a better frame of mind, such as eating well, getting some exercise, giving friends and family a quick call, avoiding alcohol (or drinking sensibly if you can’t avoid it altogether), and talking to someone about how you’re feeling.

Another option would be to consider booking yourself on mindfulness training courses to help give yourself a happiness boost today – and for the rest of your life if you’re keen to continue with the techniques you’ll pick up.

Mindfulness is simply one way of anchoring yourself to the present moment, helping to banish all worries, fears, anxiety and other negative feelings completely. The key to the practice is to focus on your breathing and there are various exercises you can try out that will help calm your mind simply by making you concentrate on your breaths in and out.

If you want to find out more about mindfulness techniques, get in touch with us here at Excellence Assured. We offer a wide range of courses that can really help you improve your general health and wellbeing today and well into the future.
